The Complete Guide to Modern Warfare 3 Campaign: Story, Characters, Missions, and More

Soap, November 8, 2023

Modern Warfare 3 brings a fresh campaign for players to experience following MW2 2022’s story. Here’s everything we know about the MW3 campaign storyline, characters, missions, and more.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to make its official debut on November 10, offering a renowned multiplayer experience, along with the introduction of Zombies in the MW saga for the first time. Additionally, players can gain early access to the full campaign, which began on November 2, 2023.

Despite only expecting an MW2 continuation, the team at Sledgehammer Games joined by Infinity Ward have gone all out in assembling the full Call of Duty campaign experience to create the next chapter for the iconic Task Force 141.

Here’s everything we know about MW3’s campaign including the plot, characters, locations, and missions.

Modern Warfare 3 campaign plot

Modern Warfare 3’s campaign is a direct sequel to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, following the rebooted story’s new timeline. The game marks the return of the classic Call of Duty villain Makarov to sow chaos on a global scale.

Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director, Brian Bloom, explained that while Makarov isn’t the same character we saw in the original Modern Warfare trilogy, this version has a history with Price and Task Force 141 that can be explored during the campaign.

Makarov and his private army will carry out false flag attacks around the world, pinning the blame on Farah’s Urzikstan Liberation Front and TF141. The campaign places you in the shoes of both members of Makarov’s Konni Force and Task Force 141, committing atrocities and grappling with the repercussions while trying to prevent more.

Modern Warfare 3 campaign characters

It wouldn’t be an MW campaign if the beloved members of Task Force 141 weren’t part of it, along with other iconic characters in the saga, and luckily, Modern Warfare 3’s campaign doesn’t disappoint.

Further, half of the missions within the campaign have a semi-open-world format, following the introduction of Open Combat missions, that grant players free reign to explore areas and tackle the missions any way they like.
