Modern Warfare 3 has a wide variety of modes that players can enjoy, and after being available in MW2, many are wondering if third-person mode will also be available in MW3. Here’s all you need to know about third-person in MW3.
After its launch on November 10, players are enjoying all the content that Modern Warfare 3 brought. This includes new features like Tac Stance and the Gear-based Perk system, the return of fan-favorite movement mechanics, and a ton more.
The Carry Forward feature has enabled players to share various content, including weapons, Operators, and more from MW2 to MW3. Now, players are eager for the third-person mode to also be carried over to the 2023 title, allowing them to experience the MW2 2009 map roster in a new way.
Here’s everything you need to know about the third-person mode in Modern Warfare 3.
Can you play third-person in MW3?
No, there is currently no third-person mode in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer. During a Reddit AMA on November 20, the MW3 dev team confirmed that they “don’t have plans to add a Third Person playlist in the short term” in Modern Warfare 3.
However, the third-person feature is available in the MW3’s Zombies mode. Further, devs also offered players the possibility to access third-person through Custom Games, allowing them to enjoy this mode with their friends.

The third-person mode was also included in the original Modern Warfare 2 2009.
As its name indicates and following previous iterations, the third-person mode allows players to use a third-person point of view to play – different from the traditional first-person point of view popularized by FPS such as Call of Duty.
Although MW3 remains an FPS, with its classic first-person point of view across all modes, including Zombies and even the campaign, the third-person is set to provide players, as it happened in MW2, the opportunity to engage in a different experience.
Aside from providing visibility to the in-game characters, like in Fortnite, this shift in perspective enables players to gain a broader view of the maps and also promotes various movement strategies, which become effective when players have an improved understanding of their surroundings.
All in all, that’s everything you need to know about the third-person mode in Modern Warfare 3.
