Leaker claims GTA 6 still “years” away from release

Grand Theft Auto players are desperate for any news relating to the next installment of the blockbuster franchise, but a new leak claims we won’t see GTA 6 until at least 2023.

It’s been almost eight years since the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto V released for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game has now spanned three generations of consoles, with the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions expected to launch in the second half of 2021.

Grand Theft Auto players are looking for any news regarding GTA 6, with recent rumors suggesting a return to Vice City.

It was recently reported that Rockstar Games’ Edinburgh studio was hiring game testers, presumably for GTA 6. This led to speculation that the game would be releasing soon, but a known industry insider said this was unlikely.

Even though it’s been out so long, GTA 5 has continued to sell incredibly well, recently passing 140 million copies sold. If you haven’t played GTA in years, or are new to the franchise, it has also recently returned to the Xbox Game Pass.

Rockstar typically releases a teaser trailer two years before releasing the game (this was true for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2), so if this leak is true, we can expect a reveal for GTA 6 towards the end of 2021.

In the meantime, we’ll just need to wait and see what exciting updates Rockstar have for the next-gen versions. Take-Two have promised that it won’t be a “simple port,” and they will “take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on.”
